Dane Christian enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Washington State women's soccer program after recently serving as the assistant varsity girl's coach for Moscow High School. In 2006 and 2007, he coached at the summer soccer camps for Washington State University and Oregon State University. Last spring he also coached an Under-18 Moscow United boy's team.
"I have been looking to add the right person to round out our staff and to maximize the development of our student-athletes. In Dane, we have someone who will be a great addition; he is a soccer player with a love and a passion for the game," said Cougar head coach Matt Potter.
Christian is currently a doctoral student at Washington State University in educational measurement and testing. In 2006, he completed a master's degree in philosophy at WSU. In 2003, he earned his bachelor's degree in humanities and English with minors in philosophy and natural science from Concordia University Wisconsin.
Christian played his collegiate soccer at Concordia University Wisconsin and Concordia College Alabama. In 2001, he played in the Central Florida Soccer League and in 2004 he played in the Atlanta District Adult Soccer League.
Christian's passion is teaching; in 2001 he taught high school math and science at Selma High School in Alabama. He also taught an undergraduate course in elementary logic and last spring he co-taught a graduate course in statistics at WSU.
He was born October 31, 1980, in Trinidad & Tobago to Roger and Donna Joseph. He grew up playing club and high school soccer with some of the best players the country has produced. In 2001, he was selected to participate with Trinidad & Tobago's U-23 team in several preparation matches.
After working briefly with the Washington State University coaching staff and observing their unique and effective coaching style, Christian is looking forward to learning from each of them. Christian is married to Morgan Crabtree, assistant women's soccer coach at the University of Idaho. He enjoys watching hours of the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga and UEFA Champions League futbol in his spare time.
