Lincoln University of Pennsylvania sophomore engineering major Seye Adekanye (Lagos, Nigeria) capped a memorable afternoon by scoring the game-winning goal with 11 minutes remaining to lift the Lions to a thrilling, 3-2 victory over Medgar Evers College Sunday afternoon.
For Adekanye, it was the perfect ending to a huge afternoon. Adekanye finished the game with two goals and an assist for Lincoln.
Adekanye’s first goal in the 41st minute gave Lincoln a 1-0 halftime lead. Junior business major Kirk Bishop (Georgetown, Guyana / Richard Ishmeal) recorded the assist on Adekanye’s goal. Francis doubled Lincoln’s advantage in the 58th minute with a goal off of an Adekanye assist.
However, things got tight in a hurry. The Cougars scored the next two goals. Less than a minute after Francis’ seventh goal of the season, Medgar Evers’ Michael Plummer converted a penalty kick that made the score, 2-1. The Cougars got even with 14 minutes remaining on Jerod Superville’s goal.
Instead of falling apart, Lincoln remained strong and found the net at the right time. With a one-goal lead, sophomore goalie and physical education major Andre Wilkinson (St. Michael’s, Barbabos/William Grady) made the advantage stand up. Wilkinson finished with 14 saves. Lincoln was outshot, 26-9.
Lincoln will try to extend its winning streak to five when it returns to action Tuesday evening at Valley Forge Christian College. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
