Yohance MarshallSenior captain and defender Yohance Marshall was awarded BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance this weekend.

“I am excited for Yohance,” said USF head coach George Kiefer. “He has worked hard all year, and has led this team with his leadership. He knows what it takes to be successful.”

Marshall and USF earned their fourth and fifth shutouts of the year and their consecutive, with 1-0 home wins against both Pittsburgh (Sept. 26) and West Virginia (Sept. 28). Marshall and the backline limited Pittsburgh to just four shots, including one shot on goal, and West Virginia to eights shots and just three on net. He also has one goal on the year.

The 2008 BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year has also notched two BIG EAST honor roll selections this season.

The Bulls, 4-0-0 in league play, strengthened their grip on first place in the BIG EAST Red Division and improved to 6-1-1 overall.  USF leads second place St. Johns (3-0-1), by a half game.

The Bulls will continue BIG EAST action and complete their three-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. when the Syracuse Orange come to town.
