Sophomore Makesi Lewis scored both goals and senior Steve Clark recorded his league-leading sixth shutout as the Oakland University men's soccer team (8-4, 2-1 Summit) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Centenary College (3-6-1, 1-2 Summit) on Saturday afternoon at the OU Soccer Field. The Golden Grizzlies out-shot the Gentlemen 13-6.
Lewis struck first for the Grizzlies as he was opportunistic in the box, heading a rebound off the CC goalkeeper in to the back of the net in the 25th minute for the only goal of the first half. He tallied his second goal of the game by working against the Gentlemen defender at the top of the box, spun to the right and fired a shot past the keeper to ice the game for the Grizzlies at the 83:58 minute mark.
CC's John McHugh had a pair of opportunities to tie the game in the second half, taking shots just outside the box, but Clark made a couple of big saves to preserve the shutout victory for Oakland.
OU had 13 shots, six on goal, six corner kicks and 13 fouls, while CC had six shots, three on goal, no corner kicks and 14 fouls.
The Golden Grizzlies will remain in league play as they travel to Fort Wayne, Ind., next Friday, Oct. 17, for a 7 p.m. start time. The game can be followed via live stats at www.ougrizzlies.com.
