The Saint Leo men’s soccer team saw two of its own honored with All-Conference Awards as senior Eusebio Montoya was named to the Sunshine State Conference First Team and Jonathan Glenn earned Second Team honors as both teams were released on Thursday afternoon.
Saint Leo completed regular season play by finishing third in the conference with 15 points and a 5-3 record. The Lions are 10-6-1 overall and heading to the semifinals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Lions will square off against the University of Tampa on Friday morning in Boca Raton.
Montoya wraps up his career with a senior season where he lead his team in scoring with 14 goals and 30 points. An All-Conference player every year during his career, the native of Smithfield, N.C. has scored 46 goals, added 23 assists and 115 points in 61 games in the Green & Gold. The speedy forward has also scored 11 game-winners as a Lion.
Glenn, coming off a 2007 campaign where he earned the Freshman of the Year honors, saw 17 matches this season where he scored 11 goals and added three assists. The Trinidad & Tobago native was second on the team in scoring, behind only Montoya for the season’s crown.
In addition to the two Saint Leo winners, twenty other student-athletes comprised the 2008 All-Sunshine State Conference Men's Soccer Team. Sunshine State Conference regular-season champion Lynn University's Jean Alexandre was named Player and Offensive Player of the Year. Tampa's Ryan Thompson was selected Defensive Player of the Year, while Spartan coach Adrian Bush was chosen Coach of the Year. Barry's Mark Anderson garnered Freshman of the Year honors.
