College of Charleston men’s soccer player’s Wes Knight (Easley, S.C.) and Kareem Yearwood (Sousou Lands, Tobago) have been named to the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South team.
Knight, a senior defender, earns a spot of the NSCAA All-South team for the second straight season.
This year, Knight started 20 of the 21 matches the Cougars played on the 2008 season anchoring the team’s defense unit. The defense allowed 31 goals on the season and recorded five shutout victories, which was the second best mark in the Southern Conference. He also took 14 shots from the field on the year.
Yearwood, a junior forward, also earns a selection on the All-South team for the second straight season.
In 2008, Yearwood scored seven goals, which was the third best mark in the SoCon on the season. Two of Yearwood’s goals were game-winners, included in which was a score in the first overtime of the Cougars 3-2 win over Appalachian State in the first round of the SoCon Tournament.
The Cougars ended the 2008 season with an 11-10-0 overall mark, 3-4-0 in the SoCon. The team ended the year making a run in the Southern Conference Tournament, as they knocked off Appalachian State and top-seed Elon (4-1), before bowing out to NCAA Quarterfinalist UNC Greensboro (2-1) in the Championship match.
