Senior midfielder Jason Rudder assisted on the first goal and scored the final goal of the game as East Stroudsburg University scored three late goals and shut out Bloomfield, 3-0, in men's soccer on Saturday afternoon at Wilmington College.
Senior goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa made seven saves for his 23rd career shutout. ESU (1-1) held a 13-11 advantage in shots and Steven Alonso made eight saves for Bloomfield (0-2).
Sophomore Jeremy Cheeseman broke a scoreless tie in the 68th minute on an assist from Rudder, the first of ESU's three goals over the next 20 minutes. Senior back Danny Drago scored off a corner kick less than four minutes later on an assist from senior midfielder Shane McFarlane, and Rudder converted on a pass from sophomore midfielder Greg Schook in the 87th minute.
Rudder, a first team All-PSAC East midfielder in 2007 with six goals and four assists, didn't record a point last year after being limited by injuries. Drago's goal was the 10th of his career, while Cheeseman had his second career goal, both game-winners.
ESU opens PSAC East play its next time out against Millersville in a match-up of last year's PSAC semifinal game won by Millersville, 3-2 in overtime. The women's game begins at 5 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium followed by the men's game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
