The University of Maine at Fort Kent men’s soccer team opened their season with a win over Husson University 4-0 on Alumni Memorial Field Tuesday in Fort Kent, Maine.  Sophomore forward Keith Williams II (Trinidad & Tobago) scored two goals and senior captain Emlyn Jacoby (Johannesburg, S. Africa) had three assists to lead the Bengal attack.

The NAIA pre-season number eight ranked Bengals (1-0) got on the board in the ninth minute, when Williams II two touched a corner kick in mid-air from Jacoby into the back corner of the HU net.  The teams would then play even for the remainder of the first half.  The Bengals brook the game open on two second half goals just five minutes apart.  Sophomore mid Jermaine West (New Baalbec, Jamaica) was able to break free at the top of the 18 and beat HU keeper Miquel Dominquez high in the 59th minute to make the score 2-0.  Just over five minutes later in the 65th minute, Jacoby got his second assist of the match on another corner kick when he found junior mid Luka Odak (Kutina, Croatia) in front of the Husson net.  Odak finished with a nice header.  The fourth and final goal of the contest was from Williams in the 88th minute on a through ball from Jacoby spliting the Eagle defense.

Dominguez was busy for most of the day making eight saves on twelve shots on goal while UMFK keep Giovanni Sinclair (Jr. St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) earned the shutout making two saves on two shots on goal.  UMFK outshot HU 29-4 overall with a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.  The Bengals also had a 6-0 advantage in corners and were able to convert two of the six into goals.
