The Manhattanville men's soccer team won its first game of the season, defeating The College of Staten Island 7-0 at the CSI Soccer Complex on Tuesday evening. Sophomore Keston George (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) set a new program record with a nine-point effort, netting his first hat trick of the season and also dishing out a career-high three assists in the early season victory.

George got on the board in the eighth minute after a quick shot to the left side of the empty net past Dolphins goalie Andrew Brown.  “Keston is an important guy on our squad," commented Head Coach Didier Orellana. The Valiants went back out on the attack six minutes later as freshman Moshee Kelyana (Scarborough, Ontario) scored his first career collegiate goal on a cross shot  to the left corner from George. “The contribution from Moshee was great; he started because of his tremendous work ethic," Orellana said about Kelyana being the only freshman to start tonight.

The Valiant offense pushed into high gear 56 seconds later, as George netted his second goal of the night on a fast break from a crisp pass off the foot of junior Shaune Allan (Edinburgh, Scotland).  Later on the first half in the 22nd minute sophomore Adam Kent (London, England) sent a long outlet pass to George who buried it into the back of the net for the hat trick. The Valiant attack also found luck from the corner of the field as Kent’s corner kick found the foot of Allan for his first goal of the night.

“We're definitely counting on Adam this season," Orellana said. "He is coming back from a pre-season injury and was even doubtful tonight.”

Manhattanville settled back a bit in the second half, but still added two goals. Junior Sebastian Chica (Port Chester, N.Y.) added his first goal of the season on assists from George and senior Keith Simons (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). Freshman Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario) added the final goal for the Valiants and gave George his final point of the contest in the 68th minute, as George set up the freshman forward to find the back of the net.

“As a team we are looking forward to hosting Vassar on Saturday," added Orellana. "Our preseason schedule has really prepared us for the upcoming game and as we look forward into the season. However, we play one game at a time.”

The Valiants will host Vassar College on Saturday September 5, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. at GovValiants.com Field. Live Stats and Twitter updates will be available at game time.
