The #1-ranked Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team scored a late goal on its way to a 1-0 victory in RMAC action against Mesa State at Walker Field on Sunday afternoon.

CSM recorded four quick shots to begin the match as Alex Nass, Tesho Akindele and Alex Gunberg all put shots on goal in the first 19 minutes of the match. The two teams battled back in forth with the Mavericks recording six shots in the first half and Mines tallying five.

Nass and Philip Wilson connected in the 59th minute with a pair of shots just 20 seconds apart. Nass hit the crossbar and Wilson came back with a shot that was just left of the goal.

A shot by Gunberg in the 62nd minute was wide left while Akindele missed the goal on high in the 69th minute.

Chike Sullivan broke free from the MSC defense in the 76th minute after receiving the pass from Ethan Blodgett and scored his fifth goal of the season. The assist was Blodgett's first of his career. The goal was Sullivan's third game-winner of the season.

The Mines defense picked up its sixth shutout of the season and its fifth shutout victory. CSM goalkeeper Manville Strand made four saves in the win.

The #1-ranked Orediggers (9-0-1, 6-0-1 RMAC) return home to the CSM Soccer Stadium on Friday, Oct. 8th to play host to CSU-Pueblo at 3:30 pm.
