The LSU Shreveport men’s soccer team won the toughly contested battle with the Northwood University Knights on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-2 at Knights Field.

LSUS (4-4, 2-1 RRAC) spotted NU with an early goal as Cesar Ortiz scored at the 27th minute of the first half to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead but the Pilots would come back and score as Marcos Carrillo put the first goal away for LSUS at the 30th minute to tie the game, 1-1.

NU (4-7, 1-2 RRAC) again scored first in the second half with a strike from Sam Valosek to regain the lead for the Knights at the 57th minute. Then at the 69th minute for LSUS, Leonardo Reyes, found himself in a one-on-one situation with the Northwood keeper and he slipped his was past him for the goal to tie the game once again.

With the end of regulation drawing near the Pilots kept putting together scoring chances until Samuel Portales made good on a shot that would give the Pilots their third and final goal at the 74th minute.

The Pilots have now won two games in a row while Northwood has lost three games in a row.

“This was a great game, both teams played extremely hard for 90 minutes. I was proud of our team the way we fought back each time we got down. This team never quit and was rewarded with the win today,” said LSUS head coach Krasi Kolarov.

The next game for the Pilots will be next Thursday in Hobbs, New Mexico, at 4:00 p.m. against the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest. The Mustangs are currently winless on the season at 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
