Already winner of its second regular-season title in three years, the Boston University men's soccer team added some more hardware Wednesday, as it received three annual America East awards in a vote by the league's head coaches. The Terriers led the league in all-conference honorees with seven total, not including the four all-rookie team members and the one all-academic team honoree.
Garnering his second first-team all-conference honor, Henry steadied a defense that included two freshman starters and a redshirt-freshman goalkeeper. Having started all 16 games in the back for the Terriers, he helped BU allow just 0.88 goals per game, including a league-best three scores in seven America East games.
Earning both second-team all-league and all-rookie accolades, Madzongwe stepped into the sweeper position and started all 16 games in that crucial role for the Terriers. Twice named America East Rookie of the Week, Madzongwe headed in his first career goal in BU's 2-1 win over then No. 20 Harvard on Sept. 26.
Roberts, who is in his 26th season on the Terrier bench, led his squad to an 11-4-1 record and its 10th America East regular-season title during his tenure. BU leads the America East in both scoring (2.00 gpg) and scoring defense (0.88 gapg). Assisted by Scott Black, Francis Okaroh and Dan Colwell, Roberts, who is just two wins shy of 300, also earned Coach of the Year honors in 1991, `94, 2001, `04 and `08.
