Saint Leo freshman forward Edgar Herrera was selected Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, it was announced Thursday by SSC Commissioner Jay Jones. Also earning spots on the 2010 All-Conference teams were seniors Bruce Cutler and Jonathan Glenn, as they were garnered with second team honors.

Herrera had a spectacular freshman campaign for the Lions. He led his team, and tied the for the conference lead with 11 goals in 14 games, while posting 28 points. On top of his three game-winners, Herrera boasted a top-ten finish in total assist with six. Compiling over a 1,000 minutes for the season, the Four Oaks, N.C. native scored six points in eight SSC matches, which stood second most for a freshman.

He is the first Saint Leo SSC Freshman of the Year winner since Glenn was given the distinct award in 2007.

On the second team side, Cutler enjoyed a career season from the midfield position in helping Saint Leo to their second Sunshine State Conference Tournament in four years. He tied his single-season record in goals scored with six, while achieving new heights in the assist department with an additional six. He tallied three game-winning goals and recently eclipsed the 50-point mark for his career.

Of Cutler’s 18 points, six came in SSC contests, including the game-winner over Florida Southern in late September. Recently, Cutler was honored as a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team member.

Glenn is also finishing his career on high note, being named to the second team for the fourth consecutive year. In total, the senior finished with seven goals in 2010, including four in SSC action. He completed the year with 16 points and registered the eventual game-winning goal in a 3-2, come from behind victory over Eckerd last month.

Glenn also moved into fifth all-time in goals scored at Saint Leo with 41.

Voting for the All-SSC team was conducted among the league's men's soccer coaches and sports information directors.
