Cumberland’s Robert Boyd and Sully Shattuck were named the TranSouth Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday after leading the Bulldogs to a victory over Campbellsville University and an overtime loss to third-ranked University of Rio Grande.

Boyd scored both goals in a victory over Campbellsville and netted CU's first goal and nearly put in the game-winner in an overtime loss to No. 3 Rio Grande. The senior scored in the 16th and 34th minute to put CU ahead, 2-0, against Campbellsville and the Bulldogs held on for a 2-1 victory.

Against Rio Grande he tied the match at one with a goal at the 17-minute mark. His right-footed half-volley from 10 yards missed the left post by inches with three minutes left in regulation, a goal that would have given CU the upset of the Red Storm. Boyd now has three goals and four assists this season for the Bulldogs and is tied for sixth in the TranSouth in points.

Shattuck posted a 1-1-0 record in goal, recording 67 scoreless minutes before leaving with an injury against Campbellsville and holding off a barrage of shots against Rio Grande. He collected four saves and left with CU holding a 2-0 advantage in the win over Campbellsville.

Rio Grande had 24 corner kicks and 35 total shots against Shattuck, who made eight total saves and knocked away or gathered numerous crosses on corners and during regular play. The junior continues to lead the TranSouth with a 1.32 goals-against-average and has 33 saves in 615 minutes of action this season. It is the second consecutive Player of the Week honor for Shattuck.

Cumberland hosts 21st-ranked Bethel University in the TranSouth Conference opener for both clubs Tuesday. The women’s match starts at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
