On Wednesday, the University of Charleston men’s soccer squad matched up with the Concord Mountain Lions to see who would take the win.

The Golden Eagles started off strong from the beginning, with three goals within minutes of each other to lend motivation to the team.

Harry Machacha (Germiston, South Africa) began the scoring with his unassisted goal just 13 minutes into the contest, followed a minute later by assisting along with Craig Cantor (Cincinnati, OH) on a Garrett Listo (Cincinnati, OH) score for the quick 2-0 advantage.

Not to be outdone, Dion Peters (Trincity, Trinidad) finished the triple set of goals one minute after the previous two as he was set up for an open shot at the top of the box on a great pass from Machacha.

Michael Osuji (Imo State, Nigeria) followed the opportunity given by Peters resulting in the Golden Eagles leading 4-0.

Having possession most of the first half, Charleston dominated the field until a bad break in the last few minutes where a Concord penalty kick resulted in a 4-1 game just seconds before the teams headed into the halftime break.

Rob Vincent (Liverpool, England) came back strong with a penalty kick of his own to open the second half scoring in the 57th minute. Determined to keep the momentum going, Peters drove through the defense for a breakaway down the right side for his second goal of the afternoon.

In the 85th minute, the Mountain Lions made another attempt and scored as the game wrapped up to a 6-2 victory for the Golden Eagles.

On the afternoon the Golden Eagles outshot Concord 18-6 as goalkeeper Sean Teepen (Cincinnati, OH) recorded two saves in his 90 minutes of work.
