Senior captain Stephen Knox scored in the 15th minute and freshman Nick Thomson stopped a personal-best seven shots to help the Boston University men's soccer team earn a 1-0 victory at Vermont on Wednesday afternoon.

With their fifth win in seven contests, the Terriers improve to 6-6 and 2-1 in league play, while the Catamounts drop to 6-6 (1-2 AE).

BU got on the board early when Knox and senior Colin Henry put together a give-and-go combination in the box. Upon receiving the ball, Knox fired toward the far post on the right side past a diving Dave Ramada.

After trailing by a 7-6 margin in shots at the half, Vermont came out aggressively in the second trying to find the equalizer. The Catamounts held an 8-2 advantage in shots and 4-0 lead in corners, but Thomson, named America East Player of the Game, was stellar with four saves in the final 45 minutes of action.

Vermont's AE Player of the Game D.J. Edler recorded a game-high four shots, while Knox, freshman Dominique Badji and senior Ben Berube each had two attempts. Entering the game with six shutouts, Ramada posted five saves in the loss, as the Catamounts suffered their first loss at home since Sept. 9.

After extending their unbeaten streak to five games against Vermont, the Terriers will next host Stony Brook on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 2 p.m.
