Team captain Jarryd Phillips (Johannesburg, South Africa) converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute as the UMaine Fort Kent men’s soccer team rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat SUNY Canton 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Canton, New York.
Shane Powell scored in the 34rd minute to give SUNY Canton a 1-0 halftime lead. However, senior Keith Williams, II (Trinidad & Tobago) scored the equalizer on an assist from Orlando Melando (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) in the 58th minute, setting up Phillips game winnner.
David Girouard (Jr., St-Eustache, Canada) earned the win in goal for UMFK (14-1) making two saves on three shots while Sankung Sillah had six saves on eight UMFK shots for 11-7-2 SUNY Canton.
