Dion Peters scored early and often in a powerful 5-1 performance over Shepherd to claim the third-straight WVIAC title for the University of Charleston men's soccer program.

Peters put UC (10-6, 6-1) on the scoreboard just 18 minutes into the contest on an unassisted goal and wasted little time in giving his team plenty of breathing room with another score just two minutes later.

The Rams (6-9-1, 3-5) defense had no answer for Peters in the first half as he completed his perfect night by booking a hat-trick by netting his third goal on his third shot of the afternoon just 26 minutes into the game. Ryan Osborne and Rob Vincent were credited with the assist on Peters' third goal.

Charleston came out continuing to control possession in the second half holding a 3-0 advantage before Michael Osuji managed to slip behind the SU defense to book his third goal of the season and increase the Golden Eagle lead to 4-0.

The dangerous tandem of Vincent and Peters would strike again (5-0) in the 68th minute this time putting Vincent on the stat sheet, while closing the book on Peters' night with the assist.

Shepherd managed a goal in 73rd minute, but the enormous deficit was more than they could overcome as 5-1 became the final.

"Everything was just clicking for us today." stated 2010 WVIAC Player of the Year Rob Vincent. "The field conditions weren't condusive to our type of play, but we managed to adapt and find our game. It just kept going our way today and it seemed like everything we shot was finding the net."

The win and the results from today's Wheeling Jesuit vs WV Wesleyan match secure the West Virginia Conference regular season title for Charleston for the third consecutive season.

"It feels so good to be able to win the conference a third time" said Peters, "We played excellent today and showed the type of firepower we can bring as a team when we just play our game."

UC closes out the regular season with a Senior Night contest against conference opponent Ohio Valley on Thursday, October 27 at 1:00 pm.
