Sixteen men’s and women’s soccer players were named TranSouth Conference Scholar-Athletes this week, as announced by the league office during the conference tournament that started Saturday.
Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.00 grade-point-average based on grades at the individual institution as of the beginning of the Fall semester.
On the men’s side Union University led all schools with 14 scholar-athletes and Trevecca Nazarene had 11 before Cumberland and Bethel University, each with 10. Among the women’s teams Bethel led all institutions with 18, while Union had 13 and Trevecca with 11.
Cumberland’s soccer teams both won their quarterfinal matches Saturday in the TranSouth Championships. The men play in the semifinals Tuesday at 2 p.m. at eighth-ranked Bethel and the women travel to Union on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match.
