Forward Lehann Anderson will leave for the United States today to participate in an invitational trial with American Major League Soccer (MLS) club Portland Timbers.

Anderson, 24, a product of the P&D Soccer Coaching School, will be screened on Saturday and Sunday, following which a contract may be awarded. Despite standing only 5’2” tall, he boasts of strengths in his aerial ability, as well as his speed and agility.

Anderson had a spell with Redbridge College, in London, back in 2006 after being awarded a partial scholarship to study and play football. Anderson, during his time competitive run for the football team, won both the SX Cup and league in England.

He celebrated an impressive 19 goals in 21 appearances for the team. Anderson, while training with P&D (formerly known as P&B) played several years in the T&T Pro League Under-16 Division with Defence Force. He is currently unattached.

Speaking on the potential move Anderson said he was confident and has no reason to believe that the trial will not follow with a contract. “Right now, my ambition is to play professional football with the MLS,” said Anderson, adding that his persistence will pay off in the near future.

Coach and co-founder of the P&D Soccer Coaching School- Michael Paul described the athlete as a “deadly striker” with a “passion for the game”. Paul, a former national boxing champion, has worked with Anderson for over 12 years and believes the striker has what it takes to make it into the MLS.

Anderson said that in the past he has been denied the opportunity to show his worth because of his height. “Despite working to my full potential, many coaches, especially in T&T, have given me little or no chance because of my height, saying we need bigger and stronger strikers,” said Anderson.
