A CARIBBEAN hero has been honoured by the newly formed East Fife Supporters' Trust during a ceremony last week.

Former Fifers star, Arnold Dwarika, was presented with honorary membership of the trust by its youngest founder member, nine-year-old Niall Anderson, of Windygates.

Dwarika, who now plays for Beijing Guoan in China, was training with his Trinidad and Tobago team mates before Sunday's match with Scotland, which they lost 4-1.

He said: "It's a great honour. I had a great time at East Fife and it's amazing to be remembered by the club like this although I don't think I could get used to the rain again!

"The fans clearly love their club and I hope the trust is successful."

Niall was delighted to present the membership.

He said: "Although I'm too young to remember seeing Arnold play, my dad's often talked about how good he was and the great goals he scored."

Dwarika was signed in 1995 by Steve Archibald from Trinidad club side Superstar Rangers, when he was already an established international.

He made his debut as substitute in the 1-0 defeat against Berwick Rangers at Bayview and netted his first goal in the 1-1 home draw against Meadowbank Thistle in his fourth game.

Dwarika became a cult hero at Bayview and was joined by his fellow Trinidad team mates Craig Dennim and Gavin Lewis.

He made 50 appearances for East Fife between 1995 and 1997, scoring 11 goals in the process.

His international career began in 1991 and has been a member of the Trinidad and Tobago senior squad since 1993, going on to make over 100 appearances for his country.

During his time at East Fife, Dwarika was voted Caribbean Football of the Year in 1995 and featured in the Trinidad under-23 Olympic squad in 1996.

Trust secretary Kerriann Paterson said: "Although the Supporters' Trust is mainly about the future of East Fife FC, it's important we remember our past and particularly players like Arnold, who brought a real sparkle to the club during the time he was at Bayview."

The trust is an independent organisation set up to provide links between the club and the community. For more information visit the website at www.efst.org.uk
