IPSWICH Town captain Carlos Edwards has apologised for his part in Watford’s winner on Saturday.

The right-back’s woefully underhit back pass allowed Troy Deeney to score a 83rd minute decider and prevent the Blues from moving just six points from the play-offs.

Edwards knows that individual errors have cost his side dear this season but still refused to rule out a top-six bid.

He said: “I do have my ups and downs and on Saturday, I had one of those moments. We all make mistakes but I did apologise to the team.

“It is always hard at the end of the game when you see other results, but it wasn’t to be. We are not making any excuses but the pitch wasn’t the best – though it was the same for both sides. They just did a better job.”

As the majority of supporters turn their attention to next season, Edwards will not conceded that the play-off dream this year is now dead.

He said: “We have to think positive (about the play-offs). It is a setback and a kick in the face after the run we have been on. But I don’t think it is the end of the road. We still have a lot to play for and anything can happen in football.

“It is in the back of our heads that we can make the play-offs. We will just go out there and try and take three points from every game.

“Our mistakes cost us but it has been one of those seasons. You can look back but it is not going to help our cause.

“For the next eight games, we just need to concentrate on winning as many of them as possible.”
