Peltier goal rescues Slovan.SK Slovan Bratislava record signing and Trinidad and Tobago national senior team player Lester Peltier is already paying back the club.

The speedy winger, wearing the number 21 shirt and only his first game for his new team scored the game-winner in their first match of the season against FC Tatran Prešov yesterday.

Slovan Bratislava had to come from behind to win the game when Tatran Prešov took an early lead through an own-goal by Kristián Kolčák in the 15th minute before Slovan Bratislava equalised in the 47th minute via a Nicolas Gorosito strike.

Then at the stroke of full-time Lester Peltier, with a one time shot, side footed a cross that was deflected to him in goal. The former San Juan Jabloteh man was alone on the top of the penalty box to pounce on a deflected cross as his shot went in leaving the Tatran Prešov goalkeeper in disbelieve after his team gave such a creditable performance.

As a result, Slovan walked away 2-1 winners and with a full three points to open it's new season with, credit to the talented Trinidadian who made it all possible. Early Corgon Liga betting odds suggest that Slovan Bratislava is one of the favorites to land the championship title.

Slovan coach Vladimir Weiss told the Club's official website: "During the break I told players that we will win 3-1. Finally, I am satisfied with the result 2:1."

"The fighting spirit and the quality of the game in full I have to commend the boys, although not all. We had many chances, so we deserved to win. However, the opponent gave a likeable performance and constantly threatened us."

"I am glad the crowd (1600) woke up and it drove us in the second half, which gave us strength and we finally did it, added Weiss."

Peltier told the Club's website: "Everyone will be coming at Slovan as they are a very big club and especially me with the last season performance; I know it wouldn't be easy."

"The defence of Tatran Prešov was very good, they got the early goal and defended the goal, they had a wonderful first half, we didn't play good football in the first half but the coach spoke to us at half time and we came out with a spirit to win, a good mentality and to get some goals."

"I am at a new Club and still adjusting and learning the players, it's going to be difficult at the start but the guys are helping me and guiding me on the pitch and hopefully with Mamadou Bagayoko coming in at right-back will also help Slovan, a good performance from him. We are happy to have him back and we played better in the second half, ended Peltier."

Slovan sits fourth on the league table, with Peltier's former club FK AS Trenčín occupying first place on goal difference. Up next for Slovan is a second qualifying round first match game of the European League against FC Videoton on July 19th.
