Swindon could scupper Bury's attempts to sign Bolton striker Ricky Shakes.
Gigg Lane boss Graham Barrow has revealed that the 20-year-old, who is being released by the Trotters, may prefer moving closer to London, from where he hails.
He had a trial at the County Ground this week after finishing the season on loan at the Shakers, where he was a hit with fans and players alike.
Barrow said: "Swindon are also interested in him now and he's from London so he may want to move closer to home and that could be a stumbling block.
"He may want to be near home but when you're managing young lads you have to understand them and he should think about his career and where he will get games."
