Denis Smith will try and work out when he can give Dennis Lawrence a break from football.

The Wrexham boss has spoken to the giant centre-half about representing his country, Trinidad and Tobago, in next month’s Conacaf Gold Cup tournament in America.

Lawrence, along with Hector Sam, has been called up by Trinidad and, if as expected they travel, then Smith might not see the pair again until July 25 – the day the Reds head out for their pre-season tour of Northern Ireland.

The Trinidad and Tobago FA want the players to report for pre-tournament training on Monday with the group stages of the competition kicking off on July 6. The final is on July 24.

But Smith does not want Lawrence, who made 42 league starts last season as well as a host of international appearances, to suffer burn-out though he has accepted the defender will be on international duty.
