National midfielder Chris Birchall should be out for up to two weeks after pulling his hamstring in the ninth minute of Port Vale’s 2-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers in the English League One last Friday.

The 20-year-old English-born felt the pull and immediately left the pitch, but is awaiting further medical advice before he can know the full extent of the injury.

“I felt it right away, but I’m awaiting further advice from the doctor. It seems it can have me out for about two weeks and I’m hoping more than that,” Birchall said on Tuesday.

“Aside from that, once I can get back on the field again, I should be pretty all right for the rest of the season and I’m hoping to finish it off with a bang because it could be very useful before I rejoin the national team for our preparations for the World Cup.”
