Long time Dallas Burn and FC Dallas player and assistant coach Brian Haynes has left FC Dallas to pursue other coaching opportunities. "I called [Michael] Hitchcock and Colin [Clarke] today to let them know I would be leaving FC Dallas and exploring other opportunities in the coaching and moving on in the soccer world. I thanked Colin for the time I had here working with him, but I am very happy with this decision and am excited about the future."
With the addition of Oscar Pareja to the coaching staff, FCD had four coaches on staff that had signed deals for 2006. Earlier in the week at the MLS combine, Hitchcock had indicated FCD was still interested in keeping Haynes in some capacity. "We are going to talk to him about a few things," said Hitch, "We would like to try and keep him in the organization."
"If there is something else I can do for them and they want to talk, then I will listen" said Haynes. "But I am going to be speaking at the [NSCAA] convention and I will be looking at other options; MLS, College, whatever. It comes at an ideal time for me, I am ready to move on and accept the next challenge where my talents might perhaps be more fully utilized. This decision will be made by what is right for my family."
Haynes will be at the NSCAA convention to give a speech to the NSCAA Black Soccer Coaches Committee. According to the NSCAA website the Black Soccer Coaches Committee is more than 100 members strong and includes coaches of color representing the United States, the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Africa. Haynes will also be meeting with the Trinidad and Tobago National Team directors to explore possible state side operations for their national team program to capitalize on the large number of T&T citizens playing for US colleges.
Haynes, who holds a Class "A" coaching license, is married to Jeanne and has a daughter, Jordan, and a son, Jonah. In 2000, Haynes was honored with the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award for his extensive work in the community. Prior to joining the Burn, Haynes played indoor soccer for the Kansas City Attack and outdoor soccer with the Orlando Lions, the Maryland Bays, the Colorado Foxes and won a championship with the Seattle Sounders in 1995.
Haynes also had a solid career playing for Trinidad and Tobago, including netting the final goal ever scored against East Germany. Haynes is graduate of Erskine College. During his Erskine career he scored 61 goals (fourth all-time) and had 40 assists (fourth all-time), and had the ninth-best single-season scoring mark with 21 goals his freshman year.
