Dwight Yorke was delighted to grab his first Birmingham goal on his Blues debut.

Yorke came off the bench on Saturday to score against Charlton and grab a point for Steve Bruce's men in a 1-1 draw at St Andrews.

The former Blackburn striker also scored a header against Charlton on his Manchester United debut, and was thrilled with a repeat performance.

"I couldn't have asked for more," beamed Yorke.

"I scored on my Manchester United debut with a header against Charlton and now I've done it again for Birmingham against the same opposition.

"You can say things went well for me at Old Trafford. Maybe it's an omen that things will go well for me here at Birmingham as well."

Bruce made a late deadline-day swoop for Yorke when it looked like he was heading for Celtic.

Yorke preferred to remain in The Premiership and feels that Bruce is building a strong side - but believes he can earn himself a starting place.

"I look at the players brought in here and know it's not going to be easy to break into the side.

"Mikael Forssell has done well since moving from Chelsea on loan, Emile Heskey is a recognised England striker and Clinton Morrison is looking for an opportunity to prove himself.

"It is my job to force my way into the team.

"I have a one-year option which the club can take up for a further year depending on how many games I play but I am not looking that far ahead.

"I am a realist and take one day at a time but I am confident in my ability and I know what I am capable of."
