Jason Scotland is urging Swansea City's fans not to expect him to become the new Lee Trundle. The Trinidad & Tobago international is due to make his Liberty Stadium debut when Swansea take on La Liga side Levante tomorrow (3pm).
And while Scotland hopes he will carry on where he left off at St Johnstone last season - he notched 26 goals in the Scottish first division - the £25,000 summer recruit is wary of comparisons with £1million man Trundle.
"Trunds was a big man and a big player for Swansea and he has left a big hole to fill," Scotland said.
"He has scored at least 20 goals a season for the last four years and for any striker to come in and do that is hard. People say I have got tricks and I'm a goalscorer, so I suppose we're similar in a way.
"But I don't want to say I have come here to fill Trunds's boots.
"I'll just say that hopefully I'm going to be able to entertain the fans at the Liberty. As for a goal target, I think I'll wait and see how the first few games go before setting myself one."
Boss Roberto Martinez is on the hunt for a replacement for Trundle after the Scouse star quit for Bristol City a week ago.
But for now the onus is on Scotland, Guillem Bauza and Darryl Duffy to lead the Swansea line.
"Everybody is sad that Trunds has gone," Scotland added. "He was somebody everyone looked up to, he was part of Swansea and he will be missed.
"But the other strikers and I don't want to put ourselves under too much pressure and say we'll do what he did. We have just got to do the best job we can and hope that the goals will come."
Scotland was a big hit north of the border with St Johnstone and previously Dundee United.
But the 28-year-old has always been keen to test himself in English football and admits a chat with Swansea defender Dennis Lawrence, a squad-mate at the 2006 World Cup, helped influence his decision to come to Wales.
"I enjoyed myself in Scotland," he added, "and because of my surname, everybody seemed to love me up there.
"But I wanted a new challenge and I'm looking forward to going for promotion with Swansea. It's taken me a while to get all the boys' names right - I keep calling Kerry Morgan Kenny - but I'm settling in.
"I've had a calf injury which has meant a slow start, but I gradually stepped things up in Holland and hopefully I'll be fully fit for the start of the season."
Scotland is likely to partner Duffy up front tomorrow with Martinez expected to field a full-strength side in Swansea's final pre-season warm-up.
