Hector Sam feels that it is a must that Notts County maintain a good level of consistency next season if they are to mount a push for promotion.
The Trinidad & Tobago International forward was released by last season's League Two Champions Walsall in May, and he feels if Notts can adopt Walsall's ability to grind results out and share the goals around the team the Magpies will enjoy a good season.
On both occasions that Notts and the Saddlers met last season Notts were the better team creating a number of chances and enjoying long spells of pressure in both games, but in the end they were beaten 2-1 at the Bescot Stadium and also at Meadow Lane.
And it the ability to grind out results like that which Sam is confident Notts can adopt this forthcoming season.
"Consistency is so important in this League, having experienced it quite a bit over the last few years," he explained to nottscountyfc.co.uk.
"You have to be disciplined too. If you aren't playing well, you have got to grind results out.
"If you can do that, you have a chance. At Walsall last year we did very well at home, and even though at times we weren't playing well we were winning games.
"If you look back to the two games Notts played against Walsall, Notts battered Walsall both times but it was Walsall who won both games.
"And that is what I mean about grinding results out, and if doesn't matter if you were the better team or not you have to grind the results out and just get the points.
"It is as simple as that. Another big thing is getting a good start, and then being able to push on and build on it."
Walsall's top scorer last season was midfielder Dean Keates with thirteen goals, who has this summer joined Peterborough United on a free transfer, and Sam admits goals from all around the team takes the pressure off the strikers.
He said: "At Walsall we had seventeen different goalscorers and got promoted, and in fact our central midfielder Dean Keates finished as our top goalscorer.
"I would say the strikers were under no pressure whatsoever at Walsall because the defenders and midfielders were always popping up.
"If that can happen here, and as strikers we can share the goals around, I am confident we can achieve something."
Sam met Steve Thompson a few weeks ago for talks and a good two hours with the Manager went a long way to the frontman making his mind up that Notts were the Club for him.
Less than a week later he confirmed the Magpies boss he was ready to commit his future to the Club, and despite interest from others he was keen to take up the opportunity to be part of Thompson's impressive plans.
He said: "I must admit, I think it will be a joy to work for this Manager and the players he has at this Club.
"I am confident we can enjoy a successful season, especially after what the Manager had to say.
"Once he told me about the Club and what he plans to do, it was so easy to decide I was going to sign.
"I know the workrate has to be good, and despite a few clubs speaking to me I got a really good feeling about this move."
