Barnsley FC boss Mark Robins has expressed an interest in taking Wigan Athletic striker Jason Scotland to Oakwell.

Trinidad and Tobago hit-man Scotland, 30, has been unable to command a regular starting place since moving from Swansea City for £2 million in the summer.

He scored his first goal of the season at Notts County in the FA Cup yesterday, but he has found it difficult to come to terms with life in the Premier League.

Barnsley boss Mark Robins said: “If Scotland is available then I would be interested."

Scotland set for a Wigan exit ?

JASON Scotland is being tipped for the Wigan Athletic exit door with Marco Ruben set to arrive at the Premier League club.

Roberto Martinez is thought to have agreed a fee of £7million with Villarreal for the 23-year-old striker.

Ruben joined Villarreal from River Plate in January 2008, but has never played for the first team.

His arrival could spell the end of a difficult spell in Wigan for Scotland.

The Trinidad & Tobago international followed Martinez from Swansea last summer in a deal worth around £2million.

But he has failed to make a mark with the Latics, scoring just once in 13 starts and eight appearances from the bench.

That goal came last week in a 2-2 FA Cup draw with League Two side Notts County.

Barnsley manager Mark Robins has already expressed an interest in taking the 30-year-old to Oakwell.

But he is likely to face competition for the striker, particularly from other Championship clubs, after Scotland netted 21 goals in the second tier for Swansea last term plus three in the FA Cup.
