Despite a disappointing result at Craven Cottage on Sunday Jason Scotland's first league goal for the club will be a major positive going into the final games of the campaign.

Volleying home to put Latics into the lead after the half-hour stage the striker was delighted to finally hit home in the Premier League, a personal land-mark overshadowed by the day's outcome;

"It was a great assist from Marcelo who chested it down perfectly to my left-foot and I decided straight away to strike it," said Scotland.

"It was a sweet moment to see the ball hit the back of the net, and although it was disappointing to come off in the second-half, the biggest frustration was to not come away with all three points."

It was actually little surprise the front-man hit the back of the net given his accuracy against Fulham in the past. Scotland struck twice against the Cottagers for Swansea in last season's FA Cup encounters, and was delighted to keep his form running;

"I've got a good record against Fulham and I think that's why the gaffer put me in!

"I've feel as though I've been training well enough though and I'm delighted to get my first Wigan Athletic goal.

However the strike was undone within 12 minutes of the re-start and Scotland was frustrated the team allowed Fulham back into the game;

He said; "The position we were in during the game, and our position in the league make the result very disappointing.

"The manager and Graeme Jones both said we had to start the second-half the better team and improve on our game all-round.

"We even said amongst ourselves that we needed to be better, but for some strange reason that didn't happen and we got punished. By the time we eventually got started we were 2-1 down and fighting to get back into the game.

"So it's difficult to take but a lesson to learn from, we didn't start the second-half well enough and paid the price."

Latics will now focus their attentions to the upcoming home game against Portsmouth a week on Wednesday and Scotland has stressed the importance of approaching all the remaining games with the right attitude;

"Every game from here on is a cup-final for us, and although on paper people may expect us to beat Portsmouth we have to approach it in the right manner to make sure we get the right result.

"We've got to lift our heads up because the Portsmouth game is going to be a difficult one."
