On-loan Cardiff City full-back Jlloyd Samuel insists the Bluebirds must keep winning now to ensure their Premiership promotion dream stays firmly in their own hands.
Cardiff’s 3-0 win over Portsmouth saw them move back into the final automatic promotion spot, a point ahead of Norwich, who beat Nottingham Forest on Friday.
Samuel, who is on loan from Bolton, has played in three Cardiff games and they have won them all.
Now the Trinidad & Tobago international has called on his team-mates to win their final four encounters and force their way into the top-flight.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better start,” said Samuel. “I’ve been here for four games and played in three of them and they’ve all been wins.
“That’s what I’ve come here for, to win games and hopefully push for the Premiership. We must keep winning games. It’s all about us now, it’s in our hands. I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity and I’m trying to grab it with both hands.”
Manager Dave Jones’ side took all three points against Pompey, who had defender Ricardo Rocha sent off on 18 minutes, thanks to goals from Seyi Olofinjana, Jay Bothroyd and Peter Whittingham in a performance spearheaded by skipper Craig Bellamy.
Samuel highlighted a mix of outstanding individuals and a great team ethic as the secret of the Bluebirds’ success.
“There are great individual players here and there’s a great team sprit as well,” said Samuel. “The manager knows what he wants and he drives us forward to score goals.
“We’ve got goals in us. Going forward we’re probably the best in the league.”
Cardiff are now preparing themselves for a crunch clash against long-time table-toppers QPR in the Welsh capital on Saturday.
The Londoners face Derby tonight and a win could push them 10 points clear of Cardiff with four games left.
Samuel said Saturday’s game was one to get excited about and that he and his team-mates were still determined to push Rangers all the way.
Samuel added: “It’ll be an exciting game. These are the teams that you want to play because if you step up a level you’ve got to expect this week-in week-out.
“They’re the top side and that’s what we want to achieve.”
