ScottieIPSWICH Town striker Jason Scotland has revealed that Middlesbrough – the Blues’ hosts tomorrow – have made inquiries about his signature.

Former Town favourite Tony Mowbray is keen to strengthen a thin-on-the-ground forward line at the Riverside, with the Teessiders the latest team to be linked with the powerful frontman – a player now in the final year of his contract.

The always upbeat Trinidadian, who turned down a move to Blackpool on transfer deadline day, insists he is happy to stay in Suffolk and fight for his place though.

“The manager has told me they are interested,” admitted Scotland, who started the season out of the picture but is now very much to the fore again following a goal in each of the last two outings at Portman Road.

“I think they spoke to him before the transfer deadline closed. I’m told they were just enquiring, I don’t think a bid ever came in, but I’ve told the manager I am happy here.”

Jewell claimed this week that he never expected Scotland to join Championship rivals Blackpool after accepting a transfer deadline day bid and has been impressed by the 32-year-old’s attitude.

“It’s good to know that people are still interested in you and still look at you highly,” said Scotland. “It does give you a boost to know you are still doing something right, especially when you haven’t been playing as much.

“I’ve always been happy here and throughout all of this I’ve just kept my head down and trained hard. I know it’s the final year of my contract but I haven’t taken too much time to think about that.

“I worked hard on my fitness back home in Trinidad over the summer because I knew I needed to come back fit, sharp and at my best if I was going to stand any chance of playing.

“I’m enjoying myself, it’s been great being back in the team and scoring a couple of goals, but it’s very rare that the smile comes off of my face anyway.”
