Jason ScotlandJASON Scotland might be aware of the threat posed by fellow hit-man Billy Sharp as Portman Road prepares to welcome Doncaster Rovers tomorrow.

But the Trinidadian is only interested in firing in the goals to earn a new contract with Town rather than worrying about the man who might become a future team-mate.

On the day Paul Jewell deflected speculation linking him with a move for Sharp, Scotland pledged to do all he can to convince the Blues boss that he still has a future at Ipswich.

The 32-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, said: “I just want to do well for my club and do the best that I can do, score a couple of goals, and see where it takes me.

“As long as I play well and score goals, something will happen. I need to get my head down and concentrate on my football and help Ipswich Town progress.

“Obviously I would like to stay but we will have to see what happens. There are a good bunch of boys here and hopefully I will be here next season.”

Scotland, who has scored three times in nine starts this season, has shaken off a couple of minor niggles and should start upfront alongside Michael Chopra tomorrow afternoon.

The match should also give home fans the chance to see Sharp in action after Jewell was this week linked with a fresh move for the 25-year-old.

And of his rival, Scotland said: “He has been around for some time and has always been scoring goals, no matter what club he is at. I rate him extremely highly and our defenders will have to keep him quiet.”

Sharp scored in midweek for Rovers just days after the death of his newborn son – manager Dean Saunders making him captain for the match.

And Jewell said: “Billy Sharp is a player I admire, but there are plenty of players I admire right throughout the league. I don’t think it’s right for me to talk about Billy Sharp or any other player.”
