Dominican Republic forward Jonathan Frias continued his brilliant form throughout the 2009 Lucozade Sport Goal Shield when he scored a double to help W Connection lift the title after a 3-0 victory against Defence Force on Friday.

W Connection took away a total of $35,000 based on the cash for goals system but more importantly added another trophy to their cabinet this season.

Connection, only a month ago were crowned the 2009 Caribbean Club Champions, with Frias leading the way netting both goals in a 2-1 win against Puerto Rico Islanders in the Final of that competition.

Frias was again the man of the moment when he scored on either side of the half on Friday night at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium against the Soldiers.

Teammate and strike partner Andre Toussant registered the other goal in the one sided affair.

Defence Force struggled to find footing after losing midfielder Corey Rivers to a direct red card midway through the first half had to settle for runners-up position and $13,500 in cash based on their scoring throughout the tournament.

Frias was close to opening Connection's account seconds into the match but he headed over at close range after Hughtun Hector's right side corner bubbled to him at far post.

However Frias made no mistake in the 14th minute netting the opening item after outrunning defender Keston Williams and the rounding goalkeeper Kevin Graham-who made two grabbing attempts-to slip the ball into an open net.

Defence Force were living dangerously as the match proceeded as Connection opened gaps in Anton Pierre and company backline—however Connection failed to add to their advantage before the halftime whistle.

But Defence suffered a blow in the 37th minute when match referee Neil Brizan dipped in his pocket and awarded Corey Rivers a direct red card after charging in on Igor Santos with his shoulder.

This was seconds after Defence Force's Devon Jorsling went to ground towards the penalty area after a challenge by Gerrard Williams from behind and a call for foul was waved off.

Anton Pierre picked up a yellow card in the red card incident after objecting that his teammate didn't deserve what was sanctioned by the referee.

Seconds before the halftime whistle Defence Force was denied by the upright after defender Keston Williams managed a shot from the edge of the area which slipped through the Connection defence with goalkeeper Miguel Lloyd putting in a late attempt.

Connection doubled their advantage 2-0 by the 59th minute when Andre Toussaint paced past the Army defence with only onrushing Graham to beat and he did so with ease pushing the ball through the goalie and into the net.

Seconds earlier Igor Santos struck the crossbar from distance and the rebound header over by Frias. Connection were well in control creating loads of openings and to many, should have capitalized much more.

William da Silva Oliviera flashed a shot from distance over Graham's crossbar in the 62nd minute and one minute later Toussaint was denied by the fingertips of Graham tipping the Connection effort overbar.

Kelvin Modeste struck overbar in the 70th minute and substitute Andrei Pacheco into the side netting seconds later as Coach Stewart Charles Fevrier's side dominated the Final.

Army Coach Ross Russell responded with striker Richard Roy in attack replacing defender Anton Pierre in the 73rd minute but that backfired.

Connection made it 3-0 a minute after Russell's change, with Frias netting his second on the night and fifth overall item of the tournament placing the ball into Graham's far post before is settled into the back of the net.

Toussaint was replaced by Shadon Winchester in the 79th minute, a couple minutes after being denied by Graham at close range.

Defence Force defence became more and more vulnerable with three at the back and playing with ten-men.

They survived a scare in the 81st after referee Brizan overuled an offside wave by his assistant which allowed Frias goalbound but the Dominican Republic international chipped the ball over goal.

In the 87th minute substitute Shadon Winchester directed Modeste's cross past Graham however to Connection's dismay it was ruled offside. Graham was active again in the final minute of ordinary time pushing wide a decent effort by Pacheco.
