On the heels of Sunday’s disappointing FA Trophy third round exit following a 3-2 defeat against Defence Force, Police FC met the soldiers again on Tuesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in a rescheduled Digicel Pro League Round One Match Day Five fixture and stunned the visitors 4-2.
The Lawmen seated at the bottom of the championship opened the scoring in the 12th minute when midfielder Todd Ryan buried a penalty strike past goalkeeper Kevin Graham to hand the Kelvin Jonees coached side a 1-0 advantage after striker Errol McFarlane was brought down inside the area.
Defence Force striker Richard Roy, coming off a double on Sunday, then took his tally to 11 goals in the championship by equalizing in the 21st minute from close up, beating goalkeeper Anthony Marshall for a 1-1 scoreline.
Goalkeeper Graham preserved the scoreline midway through the first half parrying behind a Trent Noel free kick and from the resulting corner, the Defence Force custodian made a low block-out against Wesly John.
Graham was at it again ten minutes from the break pulling off a decent save against Noel Williams from close up.
The soldiers had two decent opportunities to take the advantage before the interval, with midfielder Josimar Belgrave failing to find the back of the net after disposing defender Jevon Morris above the area and finding himself one on one with Marshall.
But just inside the second period Defence Force wingback Corey Rivers stunned the lawmen by blasting a low shot inside Marshall's near upright from the right for a 2-1 advantage.
However the Lawmen which were held to a 1-1 draw back in Round Two, charged forward with three more goals to celebrate the 4-2 finish.
In the 72nd minute defender Anton Hutchinson was the recipient of a well placed Noel Williams cross at the back post and made no mistake directing a half volley past Graham to level the scores 2-2.
Noel then found the back of the net himself in the 78th minute on a counter attack by rounding goalkeeper Graham before placing a low shot into the net to put the Lawmen back in front 3-2.
Police FC sealed the match in injury time with the fourth item when Trent Noel worked a well placed low cross into the path of Kellon Williams who comfortably directed the ball to Graham’s left and into the net.
Defence Force, last season’s League Champions remain fifth on the eight team standings with 19 points, while bottom of the table Police FC sits with 14 points.
On Friday Defence Force will take on DIRECTV North East Stars from 6pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium followed by Adam’s Construction San Juan Jabloteh against W Connection from 8pm in a north Round Three Match Day Four double header.
And down at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium Police FC will host Caledonia AIA from 6pm and St. Ann’s Rangers against leaders T&TEC FC from 8pm.
