Starworld Strikers moved to the top of the T&T Pro League after swamping North East Stars 5-2 in Wednesday's top-of-the-table clash at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Having beaten the previous leaders, the pride of the South now head the standings with 18 points from nine matches contested to date, one more than defending champions CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh and Stars.

Two-time Pro League champs Jabloteh maintained their recent good run with a 3-0 victory over cellar-placed Tobago United at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

At the Ato Boldon Stadium, Vibe CT 105 W Connection-with a goal apiece from 20-year-old Brazilian Luciano Viera and Jamaican Robert Scarlette, along with a double from Kendall Davis and another from Kevon Clement-beat SouthWest Drillers 5-0 and moved up to fourth on 16 points.

At "Manny Ramjohn", striker Peter Prosper, who spent five years with Al Ansar in Lebanon, led the Strikers' charge with two goals, while midfielder Lyndon "Chubby" Andrews also matched him with a pair.

Prosper opened the scoring as early as the third minute after meeting a left-side cross from Kevin Hernandez with a crisp header past keeper Trevor Nottingham in the NorthEast Stars citadel.

In the 31st minute, Starworld went two goals ahead through striker Sean Julien, who ran past the Stars defence and struck the ball out of Nottingham's reach.

Andrews then further punished the visitors from Sangre Grande in the 34th with a direct free-kick from 25 metres out, which beat Nottingham to put Starworld into a three-goal lead.

Prosper got his double a minute from the end of the first half after receiving a long pass from midfielder Mark Borde, to put Starworld in a comfortable 4-0 advantage.

On the resumption, Northeast Stars were given some hope when they forced an own-goal from a scrimmage in front of the Starworld Strikers goalmouth.

But any thoughts of a comeback were soon squashed when Andrews' 57th minute free-kick was deflected into the Stars goal.

Kern Thomas was able to bring a little more respectability to the visitors' scoreline in the 67th minute, after ramming in a rebound from his own free-kick.
