North East Stars edged closer to the 2004 T&T Pro League football title after playing out a 1-1 draw with defending champions CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground yesterday.

A tight affair between the two top teams in the league was settled by free-kicks. Carey Harris put the home team ahead in the 25th minute after collecting a touch-on pass and rifling the ball into the Jabloteh net.

Stars led 1-0 at the half, but Jabloteh got back on equal terms when defender Nigel Daniel drilled home a direct free-kick in the 69th minute.

The most goals on the day were scored at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, where Starworld Strikers hammered Tobago United 13-1.

The Tobagonians have not enjoyed the weekend in Trinidad, as they were also beaten 8-2 by North East Stars in the FCB Cup competition on Friday night.

Yesterday, Marc Borde scored a beaver-trick (9th, 14th, 15th & 50th), while Peter Prosper (25th & 39th), Randolph Jerome (27th), Dexter Franklyn (42nd), Lyndon Andrews (45th), Kevin Hernandez (53rd) Anton Ramnarine (76th), Sean Julien (82nd) and a Gerard Alleyne own goal all contributed to the Starworld tally.

Former Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive striker Ijanar Mark got his third goal in two matches for Tobago United when he netted an 89th minute consolation.

And at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Defence Force won a drab encounter 2-0 against South West Drillers.

Shelton Williams collected a miscued defensive clearance atop the penalty area and buried a low shot past keeper Andy Dean in the 31st minute to give the Army-Coast Guard squad a 1-0 lead, before striker Odelle Armstrong secured all three points with another goal in the 88th minute of the match.
