United Petrotrin’s forward Peter Prosper became only the third man to register a hattrick for the 2007 Pro League season, when he scored a second half hattrick against Police on Tuesday.
The former national player who has been plying his trade in Lebanon and only recently returned home stated, “ It feels good to score, we lost five in a row but we are back on the winning streak and it feels good to score my first hattrick after just three games back home”.
The powerfully built forward joined the league’s leading goal scorer Errol Mc Farlane and San Juan Jabloteh’s marksman Peter Byers as the only men to have registered hattricks so far this season.
The veteran striker who has tormented local defences for almost two decades was very cautious about throwing his hat into the goal race,
“I am not really looking at joining the Golden Boot race; I just want to keep on scoring goals because that is my job as a forward, and in the process help Petrotrin climb up the standings.”
The man who last year represented Jabloteh in the Pro League showed himself to be a team man when he said, “The team needed these goals tonight and it’s great to get goals when the teams needs them.”
Looking at the rest of the season Prosper hoped that the win against Police was not a flash in the pan for the Oilmen, “Looking ahead at the season we have to get more results like this, we might not always score five goals, but we must get some goals, because we were not scoring before and today the team proved we can score, so we have to now try and keep it up”.
Prosper hinted that all was not well in the young Petrotrin camp but hoped that all this would be behind them come Saturday when they host Tobago United, “I think in the last couple of games there was some bickering, but I think we have passed that and as long as we play as a team we and play with a good spirit we will get a good result come Saturday against Tobago.”
