A late lapse in concentration cost 2004 TT Pro League Champions North East Stars a share of the points on Tuesday night, while some may argue that they should have had all three points against a San Juan Jabloteh team that surprisingly gave them a lot of chances.
This is the second player to leave the Sangre Grande based team this season following defender Dexter Franklyn’s departure in June when he was axed by the club after having alleged disagreements with Coach James Mc Lean.
According to both Darryl Mahabir Owner/Manager of North East Stars and goalkeeper Phillip their split was a mutual one.
The split came following a dispute between goalkeeper Marvin Phillip and striker Kendall Jagdeosingh last Saturday before a match against Superstar Rangers which they lost 3-1.
Speaking with ‘ttproleague.com’ Phillip said he wasn’t satisfied at the Sangre Grande based football
club and he decided it was in his best interest to quit the team and move on after the row.
He explained, “Things weren’t right for me at the club both on and off the field. There were a lot of issues bothering me and I wasn’t happy,” he said refusing to disclose any details.
Phillip added, “I wasn’t pleased at all. In the last few matches I was kept on the bench and that’s not good for me. I wasn’t able to play in front of the national coaches who are coming out to see our matches,” explained the now former North East Stars goalie.
While admitting his disappointment, he stated he won’t be disappointed for long as he seeks to ply his trade with another Pro League club in the near future.
“I am working on a deal with another club and I expect things to be completed very soon,” ended the former Starworld Striker player who preferred to remain tight-lipped as to who his possible new bosses would be.
Manager Darryl Mahabir was also hesitant to give details on the situation saying, “We haven’t terminated his(Phillip) contract. We both came to an agreement to part ways and go our separate ways. So we are longer connected to the player,” confirmed Mahabir.
