MVP of Round Two and Defence Force skipper Anton Pierre has no doubt in his mind that the Tetron based team is running a bit overconfident at the moment admitting that it could result in some poor performances.
Commenting on his team’s 1-0 performance over Police FC on Tuesday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Pierre told ‘ttproleague.com’, “I believe we are a bit too over confident.”
“We didn’t play up to par and this could do us bad if we don’t deal with it,” said the Army/Coastguard unit skipper.
Defence Force have showcased some under par performances in their two fixtures resulting in a 4-2 loss to Joe Public last Saturday but managed their 1-0 victory over Police this week.
However Pierre is promising to deal with the spouting overconfidence before it’s too late.
He said, “I know that something is wrong and we need to work on it. We have to realize that’s it not going to be easy for us. I would have a chat with the guys and I am sure before it’s too late, we would get it sorted out.”
He also mentioned how grateful he was for the three points earned on Tuesday.
“Before the match I told the guys that we needed to get full points and it doesn’t matter how. We got the win against Police, so I have to say that we have accomplished our mission,” said the Round Two MVP.
Defence Force are currently third on the League standings with 37 points trailing leaders Jabloteh by 6 points and second placed Caledonia by 5.
Defence Force’s second half golden item came courtesy forward Richard Roy coming off a one match absence due to an ankle injury.
“The six days that he has been away shows that he missed a little touch against Police,” said Pierre.
“He could have scored three goals against them but only scored one which we are still grateful for.”
Pierre is now anxiously awaiting his team’s next match when they face bottom of the table Tobago United on Saturday.
“We face Tobago United next and pen on paper we are supposed to come out big winners,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean that we are underestimating the Tobago team. We are going to be very alert,” assured the Army skipper.
Pierre is already eying full points and a good result towards the First Citizens Cup competition which begins on September 18.
“We want full points to reach 40 by our next match which would keep us in a comfortable spot together with the leaders. It would also be good for us going into the First Citizens Cup having a good points level in the League,” ended the Player of Round Two.
