Newly appointed Defence Force head coach Ross Russell will miss his team’s opening Pro League encounter against United Petrotrin on April 28.
Russell is currently in Mexico with the Trinidad and Tobago U17 team as goalkeeping coach to contest the CONCACAF Final Round of qualification for the 2009 FIFA Under 17 World Championship.
“We love the idea of playing (United) Petrotrin in our opening match,” Russell told www.ttproleague.com prior to his departure for Mexico.
“They(Petrotrin) have the big names but the style we are playing now is going to defeat them. We couldn’t ask for better opponents in our opening match.”
“We are playing a very fast game at the moment. We have been working on this sort of game all pre-season and I’m sorry to miss it,” said the 2009 Army head coach.
The National U17s will begin their final round campaign against hosts Mexico on April 22, then take on Costa Rica on April 24 and Guatemala two days later.
