Trinidad and Tobago 2006 World Cup player Anthony Wolfe is scheduled to debut this weekend for DIRECTV North East Stars after re-joining the club from Ma Pau SC and promises his best performance.
Stars will take on Bmobile Joe Public from 6pm on Saturday at the Marvin Lee Stadium in the quarterfinal of the 2010 First Citizens Cup.
“I’ve returned to boost the club and help win more titles this season,” said the 26 year old forward. “And I’m looking forward to one of my best games this season and help the team get past Joe Public this weekend, and hopefully maintain that standard throughout the season.”
Wolfe re-joined Stars for an undisclosed sum during the summer transfer window after spending a season and a half with Woodbrook based Ma Pau SC under coach Michael McComie.
He is very familiar with Stars having spent a number of seasons with the Sangre Grande based club, which is a trek from his home town, Manzanilla.
Wolfe explained that many local fans requested his return and now it’s time for them to reward his return by giving the club support.
“I’m asking the fans to keep supporting the team,” he said. “A lot of fans wanted me back and now I’m back. So I expect to see a lot of ‘burgundies’ in the stands for our games.”
Stars and Joe Public have clashed twice this season with the Lions registering a 3-2 comeback victory in Round One of the Digicel Pro League Championship under then coach Rod Underwood. But with assistant coach Shurland David taking on the mantle as head coach, the Stars enjoyed a 2-0 win in the quarterfinal of the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield which they eventually captured.
Wolfe is looking forward to helping his team register a second knockout victory over Joe Public and advance into the semifinals of the First Citizens Cup.
“We don’t have control over the other team,” said the T&T international. “But we have control over what we are about. I know that Joe Public will be no walk over on Saturday and we will have to go out and earn the respect. If we go out and play to the best of our ability I believe we can defeat Joe Public as the team did without me in their last game against them.”
