T&T Under-20 football team defeated Suriname 1-0 on an own goal in a friendly international at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya last night. The match which was poorly attended was dominated by the local team which had a number of chances at goal.
On the resumption, T&T continued to dominate and in the 55th minute Trent Lougheed crossed from the left side into the penalty area and the ball was deflected by a Surinamese defender into his own goal.
The margin of defeat could have been much wider but the local players were guilty of throwing away many chances. The T&T Under-20 team, which competes in the bmobile Super League, is currently preparing for the final round of Concacaf Under-20 qualification to be staged right here next March.
This match was originally billed as part of a double header, together with the Soca Warriors versus Cuba World Cup qualifying clash at the Hasely Crawford Stadium but was switched to the eastern venue.
Officials of the T&T Football Federation (TTFF) decided to switch the venue as heavy rain in downtown Port-of-Spain left the Hasely Crawford Stadium waterlogged and the venue needed time to drain off before the World Cup qualifying clash later in the night.
