National Under 23 head coach Zoran Vranes has called up a squad of home-based professional to begin training on Sunday at the  Hasely Crawford Stadium as this country looks ahead to 2012 Olympic Games qualifying and the Pan American Games.

Vranes took an Under 23 squad to Bermuda last December which comprised mainly of players who appeared at the 2009 FIFA Under 20 World Cup and several of them have been recalled to the set up which will also see Angus Eve and Clint Marcelle make their debuts as assistant coaches for the national team.

Among some of the well known faces in the squad include Daneil Cyrus and Kevin Molino who both impressed for the senior team during the just concluded Digicel Caribbean Cup, national under 20 captain Sheldon Bateau as well as defenders Robert Primus and Joevin Jones.

“We decided to begin the programme before the year ends because it will give us a chance to come together and get more familiar with each other before 2011 when we shall then increase the intensity of the program.

This team includes a lot of talented players from the Pro League and several of them have already played for us at the youth World Cups and have a lot of experience which should be of great benefit,” Vranes told TTFF Media.

“It is important to keep them together and to play as many games as possible. I also see a lot of potential here for the future of the  senior team for 2014 and 2018  and already we have a few players who were part of the Digicel Cup.

This country has never made it in football to the Olympic Games and this could be a wonderful opportunity to be showcased on the world stage and to get that exposure before the next World Cup in 2014” he added.

Meantime, the Under 20 team of which Vranes is also in charge, leaves for Suriname at 10pm on Wednesday to take on Suriname in the away leg of their Caribbean Football Union qualifier on Friday.
