Arima “A” Footballers were crowned champions of the sixth annual Youth Training Centre (YTC) Football Fiesta, which kicked off at the YTC Grounds, Arouca, on Sunday.

Kerin Roberts was the lone goal scorer for the victorious team as he netted twice to give the Arima-based squad a cool 2-0 victory over Santa Rosa “B” in the championship match. They won the $3000 prize.

Roberts was eventually named the tournament’s “Most Valuable Player”, for topping the list of scorers with his overall tally of 11 goals. He edged Santa Rosa’s Kerdel Chairman for the title, as Chairman finished on 10 goals.

In the semi-final stages of the competition, Arima “A” trounced YTC “B” 4-0 while Santa Rosa were 2-0 winners over YTC “A”. YTC “B” went on to lift the third placed title when they clinched a 4-3 win over YTC “A”. Runners-up Sant Rosa and third-placed YTC “B” both received $2000, medals and trophies.

The victorious Arima team also took home the “Most Disciplined Team” award. Arima “A” Footballers also played unbeaten in the one- day competition, topping the round robin group stage with 13 points from four wins and one draw. They finished ahead of Santa Rosa “B” (9pts) and YTC “A” and “B” (7) respectively.

The participation in this year’s edition fell since only two visiting clubs showed up with two squads each. Last year, 12 teams took part in the annual competition. Acting Prison Supervisor, Ted Gordon was also on hand to witness the action.

The Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SPORTT) and Toyota Trinidad and Tobago Limited were the main-sponsors of the 2012 tournament. Tournament organiser, Ian Antoine said that plans are already underway for next year’s competition.
