Dwayne Charles and Oral Jones bagged a brace each as Quash Trace defeated Red Machine 5-1 yesterday as action continued in the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League.
Jones and Charles were at their scintillating best as the Red Machine defence found it difficult to contain the speedy pair. Kyle Perreira was also on target for Quash Trace while Stephan Kerr netted a consolation for Red Machine who were missing one of their key players.
Earlier, Coca United’s Bunny Robinson hit a beaver-trick in a one- man demolition of North Oropouche. It was North Oropouche’s second straight defeat as they went under 3-1 last week only to lose 4- 1 to Coca. Junior Phillip scored the lone item for North Oropouche who are now hard-pressed to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Surprisingly it was 1-1 at the halfway stage but the floodgates opened in the second period with Robinson finding the back of the Oropouche net with regularity and place his name in the hat for the Most Goals prize.
On Saturday, Dream Team conjured a scoreline that one could only fathom in a dream, hammering Comparo United 10-0 in the most lopsided score in the competition’s history.
Leon Durity had a hat-trick while Kern Diaz, Joel Hoyte and Jameel Semel had two each as Dream Team earned their second win in a row. It was 4-0 at the halfway stage with Hoyte scoring twice while Diaz and Durity found themselves on the scoresheet as well. Sempel joined the action in the second period while Reon Moore scored one as well.
Also, last year’s finalist, Boys Town, thrashed Fishing Pond All-Stars 6-2 in another one-sided contest.
A double from Teo Raymond while goals from Sherwin Charles and Rondel Vincent from a free-kick ended the contest at the half with Boys Town already ahead 4-0. Patrick Baptiste and Hakim Byer pulled goals back for Fishing Pond but their defence leaked as many with Irvin Reyes and Charles netting as well.
Meanwhile, North East Stars owner, Darryl Mahabir, pledged his support to the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond League by sponsoring the third place prize of $2,000 and a trophy. League organiser, Prakash Ramkissoon, was delighted and thanked Mahabir for his generosity.
