In what has become a staple on the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, Super Industrial Services kicked off their 5th annual Industrial Football League at the Plipdeco Ground in Point Lisas.

The league, which was conceptualized in 2008 as a means of providing an opportunity for competition and a vehicle for encouraging camaraderie amongst the companies on the Estate has greatly increased in popularity since then.

Last Friday, hundreds of onlookers, supporters and players converged on the Plipdeco Ground to witness the opening tournament which saw all twelve teams competing in the league this year in action in a knockout tournament.

This served to provide a taste of what is to come over the next six weeks and certainly delivered on entertainment and excitement from the first whistle. One of the first games featured a rematch of last year’s finals, as defending champions T&TEC and runners up Plideco locked horns in a keenly contested encounter.

Both teams fought hard, but T&TEC emerged victorious in that game, winning 2-0. However, the spotlight was on The National Gas Company of T&T who emerged victorious on the night. Playing against PCS Nitrogen in the finals, NGC’s Steffan Cadore scored the only goal of the game to seal victory and ensure that his team started their campaign on a positive note.

The SIS Industrial Football League will offer participants over $30,000 in cash and prizes as they seek to dethrone defending champions T&TEC.  This is a seven-a-side hockey size goal competition that promises to be entertaining and extremely competitive.

Teams participating this year include: T&TEC Central, Plipdeco, National Gas Company, National Energy Corporation, Yara (Trinidad) Limited, Super Industrial Services Limited, Industrial Plant Services Limited, Industrial Gases Limited, Nu Iron Unlimited, PCS Nitrogen and Arcelor Mittal.

Matches are played daily from 4.45 pm at the Plipdeco Ground on Atlantic Avenue and at the Caldrac Recreation Ground in Dow Village, California.
