WEST END humiliated Cumuto Strike Force 10-1 last Saturday as the Round of 16 Knockout phase of the Churches Football League kicked off, with a series of first leg matches.

Jaron Nurse led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Hamon Sylvester and Stephon Murray netted two goals apiece. Kareem Simon, Aaqil Felix and an own goal compounded Cumuto’s woes, but Josiah Warrick averted a shut-out with a lone strike for the losers.

Khandahar FC were also on a goal-spree in their first leg meeting against Faith Assembly, cruising to a 5-0 victory courtesy of a hat-trick from Kevon Alleyne, as well as a strike from Jomo Cooper and a Kelroy Adams’ own goal.

Donell Herbert registered a treble, while Glen Ford added a penalty to guide RLC to a 4-0 triumph over Divine Encounter Ministries, while D’Abadie Deliverance Sanctuary defeated Divine Destiny Eagles 4-2.

In a high-scoring encounter, CNC and Woodbrook AIC fought to a 4-4 draw. Andre Stephenson scored twice for CNC, while Marc Isaacs and Donovan Derick added one each; Woodbrook were rewarded with a pair from Mervin Hope and one apiece from Joel Jessop and Sean Alleyne.

Reigning champions Gems were held to a 1-1 draw by Daybreak United — Jevon Simon found the back of the net for Gems and Dale Roberts scored for Daybreak.

La Horquetta earned a narrow 2-1 win over Curepe Amen, who later launched a protest at the result, and a decision is expected from the League’s disciplinary committee.

The second leg matches will take place today but, in related news, Church on the Rock have advanced to the quarter-final phase as their opponents Grande Praise have dropped out of the 2012 League.
